Moonlight Madness 2025 Update

Honey Harbour Association / Honey Harbour Tennis Club

August 18, 2025

Dear Members,

We are writing on behalf of the Boards of the Honey Harbour Association and the Honey Harbour Tennis Club to share an important update regarding Moonlight Madness.

After much discussion and careful consideration, the Boards of your two organizations made the difficult decision that Moonlight Madness could not take place this year. This was a very difficult outcome, and we would like to explain the reasons behind it.

1. Water System Issue

At the Regatta on August 2nd, a significant water supply issue was identified at the Schoolhouse. This required us to explore alternate sanitation options for Moonlight Madness, including portable toilets. Despite our best efforts, no suppliers were able to provide a timely solution that met our needs.

2. Community Safety Concerns

In addition, concerns were raised about personal water safety of attendees departing the event and property safety. These are fundamental priorities for the Association/Club, and moving ahead without fully addressing them would not have been responsible for the well-being of members, visitors, and property owners.

3. Lack of Volunteers on Hand

Despite persistent efforts, both organizations struggle significantly to recruit volunteers. The Hoots Day Camp could not run at the Schoolhouse this year because we were unable to recruit a volunteer to take over the coordinator role. Initially the HHTC struggled to recruit organizers for the 2025 Moonlight Madness. Fortunately, in time, a new organizing committee stepped up. Unfortunately with the last minute challenges that arose, additional volunteers were needed immediately and were not on hand.

4. Insurance Coverage

Although prior insurance policies had covered Moonlight Madness, this year an additional rider was required. This new requirement was not learned until August 7th. Because the safety issues were unresolved, the Board could not secure the rider in good faith, making it impossible to responsibly host the event.

5. Timing Challenges

These issues arose so close to the scheduled date that there was no feasible way to resolve them in time. As a result, the event simply could not take place this year.

Next Steps

The Boards will be working with partners and community members to: Develop long-term solutions for water safety and access.

  • Strengthen safety planning around property and event areas.

  • Secure required insurance coverage, including any riders, well in advance.

  • Ensure future events are planned with proactive safeguards in place.

  • Recruit volunteers for event coordination

We are deeply grateful to the volunteers and members who had already devoted time and effort to preparing for Moonlight Madness 2025. Your dedication reflects the true spirit of Honey Harbour, even in a year when the event could not proceed.

We know how much our community looks forward to this tradition, and we share in the disappointment of its absence this summer. The Association/Club remain committed to ensuring the safety, vibrancy, and future of our community events, and we thank you sincerely for your understanding and support.
